Shopping for makeup when on a Budget

This picture is so me. If you are a shopaholic for makeup like myself without the bucks in the bank account, then you need to sit down and analyse what you spend. This could prevent the tears at the end of the day and not break your budget.

Here is four steps to keep in mind!

1. Only buy what you need. If you have run out of a specific product, for example, foundation, stick to purchasing just that and not adding other odds and ends to your basket. Also, save money for makeup by putting loose change in a jar at home. You would be surprised how much it adds up!

2. Make a list so you stay on track. When you arrive at a store you can aim at specific products that are on your list. Without a list, you easily become side-tracked and impulse buying occurs.

3. Choose a budget. Create a monthly budget. Don’t include eyeshadow, blushes, lipsticks and eyebrow goodies in a monthly budget as you don’t need to buy this every month and last much longer. Monthly expenditure would be on your mascara (depending how much you use), foundation and probably powder. Then have a separate budget for those other products previously mentioned (e.g. eyeshadow) and purchase this once every third or fourth month.

4. Swap with your friends! Most likely your friends have a lot of great products they don't use anymore, or don't like. It's a great way for you to try out some new products while spending no money. Organize a ‘girls’ night’ with some wine and eats and bring all your unwanted goodies and why not swap?

I am so trying the makeup product swap with the girls sometime.

Hope these steps help!

TIPS:

  • Try not to overspend when looking for makeup. If you see something you really like, but it breaks the budget, think for a moment if it'll be there when you shop next time. If it won't, or you absolutely need it, sacrifice something small in order to pay for it.

  • Only go into the cheaper shops when shopping--otherwise you'll just be tempted to spend more than you need to spend! There is nothing wrong with Dischem and Clicks stores!

This weeks favourite has to be the under shadow base by Sormé, I am super impressed. Does not let your eyeshadow grease, eyeshadow glides on and blends in beautifully.
